Pollinator gardens sometimes get a bad rap for being “too messy” or “unattractive.” This class explores landscaping tricks that will satisfy even the strictest Homeowners Association guidelines while limiting lawns, creating connected habitat, welcoming a wide variety of pollinators, and persuading neighbors to join in the fun.
Instructor
Amy Fahmy Landscape Architect Amy Fahmy recently retired from the Sitework Studios team as the Lead Horticulturist after 12 years. Her experience in design and horticulture over the last 26 years has included some of the most notable entities in the Southeast including Richmond Hill and Biltmore Farms, and the Biltmore Estate’s Walled Garden. Early in her career, Plant Delight’s Nursery provided hands-on experience in plant propagation, composting, greenhouse maintenance, and gardening skills that inform her current work. Six years as co-owner of a design/build landscape firm in Raleigh, NC strengthened her understanding of hardscape installation, budgets, and client interaction. Fahmy has extensive experience in leading collaborative design efforts in which multiple stakeholders must reach consensus on a joint vision for public parks, botanical garden master planning, private estates with significant public engagement components, and gated communities with broad community input. She is an experienced public speaker and contributor to Fine Gardening Magazine and American Nurseryman. Her extensive horticultural knowledge and advanced studies in design enable her to manage a wide range of projects and to assist clients through all phases of design and construction. Her current interests include volunteering for Bullington Gardens in Hendersonville, permaculture, studying mushrooms, and vegetable gardening.
